Computer panic

I just got a call from C with this panic news:  “I switched off my computer and switched it back on again to see if this will help in connecting to the new internet connection we have.  When I switched it back on again, it didn’t come up and had a message about a missing signal.  It has all my homework on it, and I have to get it out of this computer ….”   I got in the car and was on my way over dreading the possibility that the disk crashed, when I got a call from a completely relieved C who got the computer up and running by switching everything off, waiting a bit and switching it all back on again.  Whoopee it all came up, including the internet connection.  C was busy backing up to a CD while talking to me!
