Mambo on Saturday
This morning I made a steak on the braai and some pap and had a wonderful breakfast. The steak was too big to eat in one sitting and so I cut off half and planned to have the other half for dinner. Tonight I looked for the steak and found it nicely covered on a plate but NOT in the fridge. I just couldn’t stand to toss the meat and it seemed OK ... no animals in it and no bad smell. Now I know that if you leave meat out of the fridge, the goggas get in the meat and it can give you all kinds of stomach problems, food poisoning, cramps, etc. Nonetheless, I put the meat in the microwave and decided to make a nice steak sandwich with some tomatoes and avocado. The last bit I took had a slightly BITTER TASTE and I got to wondering if this was some bad stuff in the meat. Doesn’t cyanide taste bitter? So now I had a dilemma … was I really going to get sick from bad meat? Was I going to get sick because my head now thinks I am going to get sick (psychosomatic, or plain psycho)? Even if I know that the stomach problem is only in my head, will I be able to prevent it? The first hour after I ate, I was carefully checking to see if there were any signs such as pains, burps, or whatever. I also took a maximum strength Tums, just in case.
I also did discover another interesting fact: G has always said the the term “Indigestion” is an invention created by my family but I am now pleased to announce that I saw on the Tums box that it fixes “Indigestion”.
With the threat of imminent demise waiting for me, I went dancing with a friend of S&D at mambo tonight. J has not danced the salsa before but is a really keen dancer and seemed to enjoy the evening a lot in-spite of the fact that she was learning a lot of new steps and that can be really tiring (from past experience). J is in the legal Intellectual Property business and I met her at S’s birthday party. Tonight Mambo had the first of a number of elimination trials for a salsa competition at the end of the month. They have asked me to be a judge for the final competition and so I have a definite date with my G to join me on the 30th to go dancing and then judge the competition at midnight. I am not sure that they know I am really a gringo.
And by the way … I am now able to report that after 5 hours there is no sign of disaster and I successfully managed to avert both a meat-created and a mind-created stomach ache.
My de-caffe coffee is finished and I am ready to go and sleep. Tomorrow I plan to have a really quiet day if I can.
